This week, we want you to set the controls for something a little different…we’re talking with Gary Lippman, a playwright and author who, like one notable filmmaker, has entertainingly mined a rich vein of tragic pop culture in his debut novel, Set the Controls for the Heart of Sharon Tate.
We're excited to talk about Lippman's trippy, suspenseful, foray into the world of Sharon Tate fetishists. We also discuss his work as a lawyer with the Innocence Project, which exonerates the wrongly convicted through DNA testing and reforms the criminal justice system to prevent future injustice.
Gary and Alex chat about writing for the stage versus writing a novel, how this generation writes based on an immersive influence in TV and film, and one of the best bits of writing advice he ever received, carer of Elmore Leonard.
